This is great news! North Bovey’s very own Bob Small has been selected to run for England in the half-marathon distance where he will compete in his age group of 70 – 74.

Bob, who ran for Middlesex and Southern Counties of England as a track athlete in the 1970s, stopped running in the mid 1980’s – cricket and then golf taking pride of place. But, just 5 years ago in 2014 he started running again and gradually regained his fitness, winning nearly all of his age group races and, sometimes, even beating all those in the 60 – 64 and 65 – 69 age groups as well.

England Athletics nominated 3 half-marathons around the country in 2019 where selection for England could be achieved; Britain’s Ocean City Half Marathon in Plymouth on May 19th was one of those races where the first four in each age group would gain selection – Bob finished fourth!

Bob will don his England vest in Maidenhead on September 1st in a half-marathon race against athletes from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
