Fair Money Allocation
Following the Fair Committee meeting last Saturday, it was decided that the fair profits were to be distributed according to the plan which resulted from a public meeting four years ago. At that meeting it was decided that whilst the Hall and the Church were our main priorities for the fund allocation, it was also an opportunity to look outside the village for recipients – charities which had universal respect and that were appropriate as potentially beneficial to us all in the parish.
As a committee we felt that the allocations were agreed using a democratic process and as such any amendments should follow the same format, with the community as a whole taking the decision to change the agreed formula.
Therefore for this year, we are continuing with the previously agreed percentages of 30% each to the Church and the Hall with the remaining 40% to outside charities and which includes a few minor allocations following requests from parishioners.
If parishioners feel that another discussion should be held to address the funding allocations for future years then please let me know or put your comments here on the blog.
As we had slightly over £4,000 to allocate, we have allocated £1,230 to both the Hall and the Church. The church money will be payable to the PCC as a substantial contribution to their insurance costs, which are horrendous. The insurance for the Hall is its biggest expense in normal years.
Our major charitable donations are to the Devon Air Ambulance – £700, and Dartmoor Search and Rescue £200.
In addition it was decided to allocate a maximum of £250 to the North Bovey Conservation Group, particularly for the Snow Patrol, which is much appreciated. It was decided that only work suggested by the group and published beforehand to the council and the parishioners by notice board and the Village Blog and approved by the Parish Council should be funded.
£100 was given for the purchase of a Henry vacuum cleaner for the use of the church cleaning party (to be purchased locally by Mrs Smith).
£300 was given to the Hall Trust to cover emergency electrical repairs which had to be done in order to open the Hall for Fair Day.
