Community self-help schemes
Snow Warden
North Bovey Parish has been fortunate to have a team of volunteers who have turned out on cold evenings to salt the roads in and around the village, in order to maintain access to the B3212 at Bughead Cross. The B3212 itself is one of the roads in the network salted by the County Council. Since 2011 the team has been led by Bob Small and Dai Jenkin but both are stepping down at the end of this winter. Anyone interested in becoming Snow warden or joining the team should contact Bob Small (bobposhpig@gmail.com or 440060) for more information. Ideally those interested would join a salting run to see what the work entails.
Road Warden
In addition to keeping our access routes clear of ice, other tasks are required to maintain the standard of our local roads. Devon County Council have indicated that with current finances, rural road maintenance is a very low priority. They are setting up a Road Warden scheme, in a similar manner to the Snow Warden scheme. North Bovey Parish Council have recently nominated John Clark to act as Road Warden. A team of volunteers will be required to support this scheme if it is to work effectively. Please contact John (jcc240@gmail.com or 440143) for further information if you are interested.
