We are planning a celebration of our Parish from May 28th to June 4th 2016, which we hope you will support and enjoy. In brief and subject to emendation, activities include: 28th May – Beating the Bounds from Brinning Landing to Langaford Bridge. 29th May – Moth survey 30th May – Bat survey 31st May – Wool event including wet felting 1st June – Historical interest walk 2nd June – Test pit digging for artifacts 3rd June – Biodiversity survey 4th June – Butterfly and plant surveys Further details to follow.

Help us to measure the Night Sky Quality in North Bovey
For information come to the Parish Hall this Sunday 31st January at noon DARK SKY SURVEY OF NORTH BOVEY WINTER 2016 As one of the activities associated with the Heritage Lottery funded, Moor than Meets the Eye Parishscapes project, we are carrying out a survey of the quality of the night skies in our Parish. We shall be making quantitative measurements using Sky Quality meters during 2016, with a view to providing DNPA with data for a dark skies landscape policy for Dartmoor. Beating the Bounds
On May 23rd we are beating part of our Bounds. The portion we will beat this year is from Firth Bridge near Grimspound to the County road near Brinning Landing. As some sections are more challenging than others, there are opportunities to join or leave the group at several points along the route. In line with tradition, members of the group will be bumped on the Boundary stones especially the new Boundary stone at Dickford Bridge. The section from Clapper Bridge to Brinning Landing will be walked together with a group from Lustleigh along our joint boundary, so be prepared to defend our Parish against encroachment: we might also try…

North Bovey Drop-in Event Wash-up Meeting
The wash-up meeting to discuss the outcomes of the drop-in event on the 18th April will take place on Sunday 24th May at 10:00 in the Parish Hall. Thanks to those who participated in the Doodle Poll which is now closed. We will be discussing strategies to develop a number of interesting projects which we hope will interest and engage participants from North Bovey and neighbouring Parishes. Examples of topics up for discussion are listed on a previous post. Pump-priming for potential interest groups is being provided from Moor than Meets the Eye “Parishscapes” Heritage Lottery funding. Everyone is welcome to come along and contribute or just observe.
