One Amazing Day!
Church crawling in aid of Ride & Stride Historic Churches Day – Saturday 14th September 2013 (See the item below dated 29th August. Sorry – no time to take photos on this ride!) It was just that – one simply amazing day. Given a head start by a headlong dash by car to the railway station nearest North Bovey (answer below), I took my bike on the train to Barnstaple, and then did a 45-mile circuit in brilliant sunshine, with views of golden sandy beaches filled by people enjoying the sun and the sea. Riding for St John's Church, North Bovey!
Your support for me taking part in the Devon Ride & Stride day on Sat 14th September to raise funds for the upkeep of North Bovey church would be enormously appreciated. I hope to visit about a couple of dozen of Devon’s parish churches, mainly in the west of the county, and in the course of the day may be covering 50 miles or possibly more (here’s hoping anyway), weather always permitting. We Climbed the Tower!
Ascension Day in North Bovey began with – not a bang but a hymn. The tower was climbed by a doughty band of singers whose voices competed with a stiff spring wind that carried their notes all too swiftly into the ether. But the view – with sunshine after early rain dappling the hills, fields and woods – was stunning. So was the breakfast – provided by a bevy of those skilled in mass catering under tricky circumstances. Well done and thanks to all concerned.
