Congratulations to the North Bovey Belles W.I.

Thursday January 9th saw the first birthday of North Bovey Belles W.I.  They celebrated with a birthday cake and sparkly drinks (or tea if you preferred).  Their first year has been successful and has laid the foundations for a thriving W.I.  An exciting programme for the whole year has been prepared with many speakers planned to speak on diverse topics.  A copy of the programme is available on request – or watch this space. The speaker at this month’s meeting was Sally Jackson who is a Nutrition Coach specialising in problems with the ‘gut’.  Her interest began when as a nurse she helped people cope with problems such as diabetes. She started to wonder whether the…

Snowmen, Father Christmas, one of the Three Kings, angels, crackers….. were just some of the Christmas crafts created by the ladies of the North Bovey Belles WI last Thursday.  Many of us realised that it had been many years since we had done any “cutting out” and it was quite therapeutic. Sarah and Pamela did an admirable job in organising the evening with kits all set up and ready for us to get cracking (excuse the pun) with our chosen craft.  It was so easy to make something stunning to grace our sitting room this year. Our thanks to Sarah and Pamela for such an enjoyable evening. Next month is our Christmas…

    Tastebud Challenge

Are you old enough to remember the advert “Can you tell the difference between Stork and butter?”.    Well the North Bovey Belles W.I.  had the opportunity to try out various foods, snacks and drinks purchased from various supermarkets in a “Tastebud Challenge” on Thursday 10th October. On the evening, tables were laid out with products labelled A, B or C and we decided which one we preferred on our own answer sheet.  When the results were read out there were many surprises in store.  There was no right or wrong answer, but the opportunities to try three different types of cheeses alongside each other proved to be very interesting.  Who could tell the difference between Lidl…

North Bovey Belles W.I. September meeting

Due to holidays and other commitments it was a smaller than usual group who enjoyed our very own Jennifer Jones’ singing workshop at the September meeting.  After a few warm up exercises and a brief examination of our vital singing muscles we had a go at singing a “round” of a campfire song some of us remember from Guides, followed by a song made popular by Morecombe and Wise and finishing with a rendition of that good old WI favourite Jerusalem!  There was much hilarity and we all felt a the benefits of exercising our vocal chords as well as our laughter lines. Business this evening included discussions on future…

‘Let’s sing together’ at the North Bovey Belles W.I.

After the terrific success of the North Bovey Belles W.I. entry at the Moretonhampstead Carnival where they won first prize in the humorous category and the Best Entry of the whole carnival, the W.I. continues with a programme of interesting evenings for the ladies. The next meeting will be on Thursday 12th September at the North Bovey Parish Hall at 7.30p.m. This is what Jennifer Jones has to say: “Let’s Sing Together – a workshop offering an opportunity to get out your vocal cords and create some sound! If you love to sing, then you’re already aware that singing is fun, energising and a great stress reducer. But if you’re…

    North Bovey Belles W.I.

When you want a change of career, how do you do it?   Liz Gavrilenko decided to become an artisan baker and has made a success of it in her little yellow Van du Pain that she parks up in Moretonhampstead. Liz came along to the North Bovey Belles WI on Thursday 13th to tell us all about her adventure.  She started baking bread in her kitchen making 10 loaves at a time.  She now cooks in the old hospital kitchen.   Not only that but she now also makes cakes and pastries as well.  She told us that there is a lot of help for folk who are thinking of setting up their own business, you…
