Church open
Following the recent statement by the Archbishop of Canterbury and our own Exeter Diocese directive it will be necessary to suspend our usual church services as from today. The church will be open as usual during the day for private prayer and we hope you continue to use it for such.
There are appropriate copies of prayers placed in the choir stalls for your use and we hope you find them helpful at this time.
The Bishop of Exeter writes
“The Cathedral will be open without charge from 10am to 4pm every day. During this period when public worship is suspended, we are planning to broadcast a regular Sunday ‘service’ on the Diocese of Exeter Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels, starting this week with Mothering Sunday, which the Archbishops have designated a Day of Prayer and Intercession for all affected by the Coronavirus, including our Health Service. Bishop Jackie will lead the reflection. We will publish advice about how to watch these services and reflections on our resources page: https://exeter.anglican.org/resources/coronavirus-guidance/coronavirus-resources/”
The Archbishop of Canterbury writes
“We have called, along with our fellow church leaders, for a day of prayer and action this coming Sunday – Mothering Sunday (22nd March). Mothering Sunday has always been both a day of celebration for many and a sensitive and emotional day for some. Wherever you are this Sunday please do join in this day of prayer and action and remember especially those who are sick or anxious, and all involved in our Health Service. As one action, we are calling on everyone to place a lighted candle in their window at 7.00 p.m. as a sign of solidarity and hope in the light of Christ that can never be extinguished.”
Please continue to contribute items to the Foodbank box at the back of the church or consider donating money online in order they may purchase necessary items.
Our weekly prayers on Thursday mornings at 9.15am will continue within the guidelines of safe distancing and appropriate hygiene practices and anyone is welcome to join us. If you would like to leave any prayer concerns on the prayer board on the pillar at the entrance of the church we will include them in our prayers.
