    This years race had double the entry of last years inaugural race and was staged in the midst of the July heatwave.  News of the race had spread via the FRA fixtures booklet and website and we had a visit from the Haldon Trail runners, two of whom set blistering new records in both male and female categories.  The race is a traditional ‘out-and-up’, ‘back-and down’ fell race and the outward climb to the top of Easdon Tor, on a mixture of road, footpath and open moorland, was like a furnace.  The double summit of Easdon involves a triangulation pillar with a short saddle to the turning point at a…

    Well, well done, everyone – there was a prodigious amount of baking, washing up, sorting of bric-a-brac, arranging clothing, displaying books, handing out of bananas, clambering up the church tower, glorious paintings by Moreton school, hill running, scary scarecrows, fabulous cream teas, photographs taken and admired, bottles won, a great raffle, plants planted,exciting and record breaking duck race, bunting erected, prettiest chickens, most enterprising children, perfect maypole dancing with live music by Flute Salad, our lovely church bells, stone carving,well and badly behaved dogs, the lovely Little Huzzar barrel organ, a world class sheep-shearing contest., good food at the Ringers.  Not all our money is in yet, but so far…

    ONE WEEK TO GO!

    The Fair to beat all other fairs is on Saturday afternoon of the 20th!!!  The world famous MONKEY MACHINE will be making a rare appearance, CAKES are being baked as I write. PLANTS are growing, BOOKS are sorted, nearly new CLOTHES are being colour co-ordinated, BOTTLES are being collected, RAFFLE prizes donated, SHEEP groomed, BRIC-A-BRAC priced. The bunting and tables will be going up on Friday evening, competition entries should be in soon and don’t forget to park you cars OFF the green for the day.  Now, who can fix the weather?
