Himalayan Balsam Bash Monday 23rd June

Many parts of the River Bovey banks are infested with Himalayan Balsam a noxious invasive weed that causes a great deal of damage to river banks and displaces many native plants.
Each year around mid June a group of Parish volunteers join Natural England and Dartmoor National Park volunteers to destroy the invader by mechanical means which mainly involves uprooting the plants by pulling and stacking the debris to allow it to compost.
This year there will be a “Balsam Bash” taking place on Monday 23rd June along the banks of the River Bovey starting at Blackaller Bridge (Bovey Bridge) and working towards “Bovey Castle”.
Anyone willing to join in for a few hours starting at 1000hrs would be most welcome.
It is a case of “many hands make light work” so please try to come!

Not going to be in NB on Monday, but just to say that pulling out Himalayan Balsam is more enjoyable than it sounds, so if like me you don’t enjoy working parties, spread the joy over the next few weeks on your own, whenever you see the bad stuff.
