Galloping horses, ship wrecks, wild coastlines, tin mines, period costumes – visions of Cornwall presented in slides by Chrissie Le Marchant at the last monthly meeting of the North Bovey Belles WI for their first Virtual Meeting on Zoom. The members who did log in were treated to a delight of stories starting with the author of Poldark, Winston Graham, his life, what inspired him, the people whose lives he chose to portray and the stories for his heroes and heroines. Following on were maps of where the series was filmed – then photos of the beautiful countryside that takes the breath away. History of the houses that were used in the series along with interesting facts about industry at the time the books were set. And, of course, photos of Aidan Turner (I know some of you dislike him as much as we admire him). Chrissie is a Blue Badge Devon Tour guide and takes parties all over Devon so she was full of interesting facts. It was also great to welcome two new members to our group.
Next month we intend to hold our Annual Meeting by Zoom on Thursday November 12th at 7.30pm. We hope all of our members will be able to join us in order to deal with important issues that need to be addressed. Four committee members are not going to stand for re-election and we need some fresh blood and new ideas to give us impetus during these difficult Covid restricted times. Details will follow closer to the day.
If you are unable to join us via Zoom in your own home, please do contact us and we can arrange for Covid safe Rule of 6 meetings in one of the member’s homes. We would really urge ALL members to attend. Contact Sue on 07919 623559 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you need any help. Or the secretary Avis Judd on 01647 440153 or email@example.com.
