We did it!
The Parochial church council is delighted to announce that St John the Baptist church, North Bovey has been successful in it’s application to the Listed Places of Worship roof fund and has been awarded a grant totalling £94,600 towards the costs of the roof repairs that are currently needed for the church. The Friends of St John’s are also contributing a significant amount towards the costs and the work will hopefully begin towards the end of the summer. David Hayes from Murchington has been appointed architect. Congratulations to all those people who put in so much work in preparing our application, particularly Peter Keesom, our treasurer, for his unstinting determination and hard work with the huge amount of research and form filling involved!
The roofing project will be the first in a phase of renovation works which we are planning during the near future. We also have urgent works to attend to with some of the very old windows and also the plaster in the interior. It is a never ending task trying to keep up with repairs and maintenance on such an ancient building as well as planning for its future usage and enjoyment but we know how important village churches are to communities and we are thankful that so many people help us to achieve that aim.
