    A Hidden Gem

If you fancy some nearby for brunch, lunch or just coffee and soup try Home Farm Café. Nearly all local produce and a great setting. It’s at Parke, next to the Dartmoor National Park offices. Set in 250 acres of National Trust Estate it offers walks from 20 minutes to 2 hours or more. Great place to walk dogs starting or ending with some nice and hot to eat or drink! And there are Daisy Hunt’s cakes to discover too . . . www.homefarmcafe.co.uk

    Flooding

If you are affected by the flooding this may be useful. This barrier system is fast to deploy and light enough to be manageable. I have a personal contact with the company (Britt Warg, she was talking about it on Channel 4 News recently). If you would like to be put in touch to see if it might suit your needs just let me know directly or as a comment on this post.

    Join The Sopranos . . .

Dear Parishioners,   Is there anyone that has been thinking about joining in with our choir but hasn’t got round to it yet? We do with another soprano ( I don’t mean really high – just singing the tune, we seem to have a lot of altos so we are in need of at least one more singer for the tune bits.   Not naming names but perhaps  – Caroline (Webster) ? Mary (Pollard) ? Jennifer (Jones?) Tracy (Small) Alex Hubble?  or indeed anyone !! Not that we’re desperate but it’s nice to have more than three people singing the tune.   The next rehearsal is this Thursday (5th)  7-8pm…

    Local ads.

I see the Small Ads doesn’t get used much, if at all, and it could be useful to buy/sell that unwanted stuff within the community. So the thought is to pop them in the main stream. Only local subscribers – spam is quite enough of a headache as it is. Village Voices would like your views. Have your say!

    Winter Concert

Dear Friends,You might have heard from me recently about a concert in the church (see attached flyer). It would be great if some of us could get together and practice a couple of carols for it so that we can participate as a village in the concert. It’s all raising money for my son’s deaf club so they can make a video about what it feels like to be deaf at school – so all in a good cause. No musical or vocal ability is required, just yourself! If you are game, here are the rehearsal dates which start this Friday at 7 in the church, and if you’re not…

    Geocaching

Just listening to an early morning programme on BBC Radio 4 – Open Country, Geocaching in Salcey Forest. It seems the longstanding tradition of Dartmoor Letter-boxing  has evolved, spread and embraced smartphone GPS technology to create a whole new hobby. Looks like an intriguing new way to get people discovering the hidden countryside . . . as long as you can get a signal!
