Leaf clearance from The Village Green Sunday 25th and Monday 26th November 2018

Dear All, It is that time of the year when willing and able volunteers get together to clear the leaves from The Village Green. The aim is to preserve the rather sparse grass by avoiding rotting leaves. Weather permitting we plan to assemble working parties on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th November starting at 1000hrs. If you can spare a couple of hours on either or both days to join in that would be much appreciated. Useful equipment to bring with you would be gardening gloves a leaf rake, leaf pick up paddles and a leaf blower if you have one. Dumpy bags will be available for filling but if…

    Winter Road conditions

You may have noticed grey DCC salt bags at the roadside near potential icy patches on the road from The Village to Bughead Cross. These bags were distributed by Conservation Group Volunteers as DCC no longer provides a salt bag distribution. You will need a small shovel in your vehicle to enable you to spread salt from these bags or the large salt bins on icy surfaces to help you get mobile again. If any Parishioners require further salt bags for highways use in their locality, supplies are available on request. Please contact John Clark jcc240@gmail.com

    Community self-help

During icy weather the County Council spread salt on major roads only. A Snow Warden scheme was set up to support volunteers salting minor roads. Since 2012 members of the North Bovey Conservation Group have been helping to keep our local roads safe during icy weather by distributing salt in roadside bags and spreading salt in some areas. Devon County Council now wishes to enlist the help of volunteers in some of the maintenance and remedial work that will not be carried out by the Highways services team, due to financial constraints. Victor Gough who is managing the Community Road Warden scheme will be visiting North Bovey to explain the…

    Road Salt

Dear All, You may have seen grey road salt bags at the roadside in the Parish? Highways were not able to undertake this service this year so the bags have been filled and distributed by myself your Parish volunteers Snow Warden! For a variety of reasons machine spreading of salt around the village and to Bughead Cross will not take place this winter so if you need to venture out in icy conditions I suggest to carry a small shovel in your vehicle so you are able to make use of the salt deposits in the Grey DCC salt bags. Please alert your friends and neighbors who may not see…
