    Face Coverings in Church

In line with other areas of public gatherings the Diocese of Exeter have issued new guidance related to the wearing of face masks during church services. “We strongly advise that face coverings should be worn by all those attending a place of worship, including ministers, worshippers, staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors, where there may be otherpeople present; remembering that they are mainly intended to protect other people, not the wearer, from coronavirus COVID-19 and that they are not a replacement for physical distancing and regularhand washing.” It would be appreciated if all those entering the church could abide by the new guidelines.

Good News – Church is open

St John the Baptist church will be open on Wednesday afternoons from 12pm and again on Sunday mornings until 12pm for private prayer and reflection in line with Government guidelines.Parts of the church have been cordoned off and certain soft furnishings and books removed as these would be difficult to clean and the PCC ask that anyone who enters the church during these times adheres to the requests in the notices in the church.By opening for only 2 sessions per week this enables the church to be “quarantined” for the advised 72 hours in order that we do not have to clean the numerous surfaces (some of which are highly…

In Touch Magazine – Latest News

After discussion, it has been decided that IN TOUCH will continue to appear during the current period of lockdown, but will take a rather different shape, and will be produced mainly online/digitally, with a limited number of paper copies for those without internet. ‘It will be a smaller production, and will not carry advertising. We shall be looking for a variety of contributions from anyone in the benefice who feels they would like to offer something who might not otherwise do so. We intend that there will be the usual mix of items of both faith and local interest. ‘Please send contributions, as usual, to Lionel and Vicky – and…

    Food Banks

The food bank deposit box is now located in the church porch. The food bank are aware and items will be collected from there so please do leave whatever you can spare or donate money online. This is the current advice being issued by the Exeter Diocese How can we best help at the moment? Whilst money is always welcome, donations of food and other requested items are particularly wanted, where possible. This is for two reasons: 1) Many supermarkets are limiting how much food people can buy – including even volunteers buying for food banks. 2) As more of us are self-isolating and buying food online, donations in supermarket…

    Church open

Following the recent statement by the Archbishop of Canterbury and our own Exeter Diocese directive it will be necessary to suspend our usual church services as from today. The church will be open as usual during the day for private prayer and we hope you continue to use it for such. There are appropriate copies of prayers placed in the choir stalls for your use and we hope you find them helpful at this time. The Bishop of Exeter writes “The Cathedral will be open without charge from 10am to 4pm every day. During this period when public worship is suspended, we are planning to broadcast a regular Sunday ‘service’…
