Raising the roof
After much form filling, site visits, quotations, phone calls, endless paperwork and a few sleepless nights work will eventually start on the replacement of the church roof next month with scaffolding being erected from March 15th and building work commencing on April 4th. A small cabin will be placed in the car park for the duration of the works by kind permission of the owners (Friends of St John’s) and Teignbridge council and work is expected to last 10 weeks. This huge undertaking of replacing the roof will enable this iconic North Bovey landmark to weather the storms Dartmoor throws at it for many more years to come, helping to…

Mark Turner
There will be two events to commemorate and celebrate the life of Mark Turner. The first will be held Friday 18th December in St John the Baptist Church, North Bovey. There will be a private ceremony at 11:00am for immediate family only, during which Mark will be buried in the churchyard. All those whose lives Mark touched are warmly welcome to join a few family members who will hold a candlelit vigil in the church and at the graveside from 2:00pm until dark on the same day. You may join us for as long as you wish to offer your thoughts and prayers in whatever form you feel appropriate. There will…

RAISING THE ROOF
Work will be starting on the church roof on April 4th with scaffolding being erected from the middle of March. Come and join us for a piece of village history in the making – who knows what we might find under the present roof over the next few weeks.

Church Roof latest
One step closer – we now have the Faculty from Exeter Diocese giving us permission to go ahead with the work on the roof so following a bit more paperwork with the charity giving us the grant we should be able to start work next spring – God willing!

Church Roof latest
Approval from the Diocese has now been given for the work on the roof to go ahead (although there are still several red tape issues to tackle) and all being well work should be starting at the beginning of April. Although permission will, hopefully, be granted formally by the autumn it will be too late in the year to start work and we have to consider issues such as weather, sourcing the correct materials, roofers schedules and bat habitats! Therefore, April 2016 is the chosen date – watch this space…..

Church roof latest
After successfully achieving an award from the Listed Places of Worship for a new roof for our church we now had to apply to the Diocese of Exeter for a faculty (permission) to replace the existing one! After filling in all the forms and carrying out an emergence survey of any bats that may be in residence (none that we could see) and consulting with our architect it seems we still have a little way to go to dot all the i’s and cross the t’s to satisfy all the strict requirements. Then there’s the problem of finding the appropriate amount of reclaimed Delabole slates as they are in much…
