Devon's Historic Parish Tithe Map Apportionments
Devon County Council are carrying out a volunteer transcription of Devon’s historic set of parish tithe map apportionments which contain details of land use, ownership, historic names etc. back in the mid 19th century.
Currently over half of Devon’s parish apportionments (from a total of nearly 500) are now being transcribed by local residents.
As yet no-one has volunteered from North Bovey Parish.
It’s not too late if someone does wish to transcribe this fascinating historical record. Devon County Council will send you a data disk and instructions, you will open an Excel spreadsheet and start transcribing.
All the transcribed apportionments and accompanying maps will eventually appear on the Devon County Council website, an important source of historic information for everyone in Devon and beyond.
If you wish to participate you should contact Philippe Planel (philippeplanel@gmail.com), the volunteer co-ordinator, in the first instance or John Brunton at the Devon Record Office on 01392 384253 (devrec@devon.gov.uk)
