Do we have a plan?
Thank you to the organisers of last evening’s drop-in meeting at the Village Hall. A well-attended event with lots of leaflets and feedback forms. Will we need a ‘Plan’? Will it generate lots of simple, effective initiatives to improve and enhance our glorious corner of Albion – or just a lot of pie-charts and stake-holder statements? What do you think? Nice atmosphere and well attended and organised, so thank you to Hazel and Alex. Do we need a village plan? No. Leave the place alone. Almost all the land and property in North Bovey is owned by someone and the owners should be responsible for its maintenance. The church, parish fields and hall are cared for by their trustees, and the parish council should monitor and maintain anything else (the green, for example) with advice from DNP.

The meeting, and most of the village ‘groups’ are well intentioned I am sure. My personal view is that poor communications are behind most problems. There is a disconnect between decision-making and subsequent requests for time/funding – at the latter stage they are characterised as ‘for the good of all’ and I know this irritates some. Pardon a little jaundice but I don’t think any more bureaucracy or surveys will resolve this.
Again I invite a spokesman for each council, committee & group to use Village Voices to recommend plans & projects – making sure information is factually correct (far better than rumour). Everyone then has a chance to express their opinion and this feedback can be taken on board before decisions are taken.
Keep it simple. Keep community matters in the open air. Have your say!
