I'm sure we all know, but…..
From Devon and Cornwall Police…. Elderly residents throughout the Devon and Cornwall region are being targeted by a national ‘telephone fraud’ scam. A person claiming to be a police officer or from your bank will phone and claim your bank card has been used fraudulently. They may suggest you call your bank to ensure the call is genuine. However, the phone line remains open and the fraudster will take down any banking details you will are asked .You may also be asked to attend your bank to withdraw a sum of money to given to a local taxi firm or to a courier. If you receive a phone call of this nature please…

Safari Supper
The Friends are delighted to present this popular evening again this year on THURSDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER and we have three new and different venues – brave hosts, we thank you in advance! The evening starts at 6pm at BARN HOUSE, for starters provided by David and Angela Hubble. After the odd glass or two, we proceed up the hill to Ed and Julie Pollard at YOULDEN FARM for our main course. Plenty of parking there, but remember you will have to negotiate the lanes back to the village for puds with Kevin and Katie Elderfield at BLACKALLER. There is plenty of wine at each venue, with a final cup of coffee,…

Rural Broadband Update
There have been some updates on the “Connecting Devon and Somerset” website indicating times that different parts of the Parish should gain access to faster internet. Specifically, north of the village (generally connected to BT’s “Ashburton 2” cabinet) is shown as being live, and much of the rest of the Parish (connected via Mortonhampstead 4) should be ready in October. You can check which cabinet your phone line is connected with BT on their DSL Checker. When the cabling is all in place an improved network connection will require discussion with your internet service provider.

Security Cameras
Over the last year there have been a variety of incidents for which the monitoring of traffic into and out of the village would have been useful. While it is open to any individual to place surveillance cameras on their property, the Parish Council would be interested to know whether the community as a whole would welcome the increased security provided by such devices at strategic points or whether the use of this technology would be perceived as intrusive. We would welcome your opinion on this matter. Please contact Councillor Hazel Jones if you wish to comment. Osmonda Cottage, The Village, North Bovey hazelajones@gmail.com 01647 440143

Lost Bear!
Young Matty Johnson has lost his Bear-bear and we think he left it either in church or somewhere around the village green. We’ve not seen it since Monday night, despite several searches, so he’s getting rather worried now. If someone finds him he will be So Pleased. He has a name label attached to the Steiff ear-tag as in this photo . . .

Match Report
From Our Own Correspondents (Catherine Smith with Shelagh & David Jacobs) Saturday 9th August 2014 The North Bovey stand was packed with vociferous WAGS, groupies and hangers-on, eagerly anticipating an action-packed afternoon on the lovely ground at Lustleigh. Our impartial umpire appeared to be suffering from earache until it was revealed that he was actually hanging onto his earplug while listening to the Test Match from Old Trafford. Before the match started, we loaned a pair of our spare players to Buckhorn Western and, in a fit of altruism, they happened to be our best two who went on to score almost half the runs for their new team. Resplendent in white,…
