Village Fair Distributions

Hello Everyone

I thought it would be helpful to share with you the success of last year’s village fair and what has been done with the funds raised.

I will apologise in advance for my appalling spelling but , sadly , there’s not a lot I can do about it now. However , I will attempt to keep out of the Americanised trap of their persistence in replacing “s’s ” with “z’s”. Is there any wonder I don’t warm to the spellchecker !

I am very pleased to report that last year delivered a record profit of £3,857.23. ( I can never work out how we end up with odd pence when everything is priced in multiples of 10p , but I really shouldn’t worry myself over it , should I?)

The previous record was £3,525.27 in 2010 ( I apologise again , but with Ian Bell just having overtaken Paul Collingwood as the highest one day run scorer for England , records have an even greater sense of importance to me).

Everyone who helped can feel very proud of their contribution in raising such a large sum of money for local causes. In particular I’d like to highlight two stalls that not only need the support of those running the stalls but also of everyone in the village in donating items that go to making the stalls such a success. I’m referring here to the Bric a Brac stall ,which is a consistent high performer raising an incredible £676.54 and the bottle store which raised £428.41.The refreshments also had an excellent year with £605.25.

So, what have we done with the loot?

As is our tradition we apply a third each to the Church and the Village hall , so cheques for them will be posted shortly for £1,330 each.

We also like to support two local charities that are essential for our safety in our wonderful rural paradise , namely The Devon Air Ambulance with £400 and Dartmoor Search and Rescue with £100.

£233 has been granted to The North Bovey Conservation Group who do such a great job fixing things in the village that otherwise would not get done and go towards making our village as lovely as it is.This money pays for their insurance which includes for any volunteer that helps on any projects they undertake.

£100 has been allocated to upgrading this village blog ………………..something about IP adresses , usernames and firewalls , but I’ve got to admit I didn’t really follow it , but I did nod and say yes.

£250 has been set aside to fund a First Aid project to lay on training courses to educate us in matters that could save someone’s life …………..I’m certainly up for that project and it will be managed by Christine Johnson.

Finally we are aware there is a suggestion that the Parish Council may be looking in to the possibility of having a Village Defribrillator . We have therefore put £250 from this year’s profits to start a fund to help with that initiative.

Before I close I would like to thank everyone who helped in last years fair. That support and help , no matter how small you think it is , is vital in continuing to make the fair such a success.

Regards to All
