Moving On!

The free service that is Posterous (where the village blog lived until now) is no more. At least it disappears on April 30th. It was acquired by Twitter (the Social Messaging people). They then decided to keep the know-how and staff but ditch the service. So I have moved our blog here ahead of time for continuity. Welcome to WordPress. See how many people use it!

The new blog address is www.day-ellison.com/northbovey. I am hosting it within my website to save the community the annual costs of maintaining a domain name and hosting service. Thank you to Mike Rego for the splendid header photograph!

This is the service I use for my design blog. I am basing it on this for familiarity so I can get it up and running quickly. At this time I am unable to import the old blog onto here. I believe this is a function of Posterous’ wind-down though I will try again. A future time capsule maybe?

The main menu is kept simple now. The Ring of Bells links to their site to avoid duplication, perhaps we could have a back-link? We need someone to keep the St. John’s Church page up to date. Events is primarily the Village Fair  and village activities such as walks, music etc. Local Suppliers & Services and For Sale & Wanted are just that – a listings place. Send them in and I’ll add them. Please keep them short and sweet, as you want them to appear, with all relevant contact details.

Basically I don’t want to load this up with sections that won’t be maintained. ‘Champs’ & ‘Allotments’ were both discontinued without advice so they have been dropped. Likewise The Maypole Pages was not supported. I think it would be good to have a page for the children but this depends on a willing parent to step forward . . .

Please subscribe. There is a button on the top left-hand side. It is free. Contact me (Gary) if you have a problem but, please, see if the FAQ can help you first.

As before “This site was founded in 2010 for the benefit of all. It is only moderated to avoid the abusive or devisive. No anonymous posts and comments.” If you think that should change please leave your comment (click on the speech bubble at the top of this post)!

Nothing is permanent except change“. According to Google, Heraclitus of Ephesus said that. He’s not wrong.
