TSB Cyber Alerts.
There has been a sharp rise in fraudsters sending out fake text messages (smishing) and phishing emails claiming to be from TSB. The increase in the number of reports corresponds with the timing of TSB’s computer system update, which resulted in 1.9 million users being locked out of their accounts. Opportunistic fraudsters are using TSB’s system issue to target people with this type of fraud. Since the start of May there have been 321 phishing reports of TSB phishing made to Action Fraud. Dear all, Parish Voices is changing slightly and the website is now funded by the Parish Council for use as an information area, much like an electronic noticeboard. As you may have seen elsewhere, new data protection laws (the General Data Protection Regulation) are coming into force this week. Theft From Vans
Police are receiving reports of thefts of tools and equipment from vans across the Devon area. Although sporadic we get two or three incidents at a time suggesting the offenders are targeting an area then moving on elsewhere. The offender/s target works vans as often large amounts of tools and equipment are kept inside. All makes and models are vulnerable although recent crimes have involved Ford Transit vans. If your business or work requires you to keep tools in your van please consider upping you security especially when leaving the vehicle overnight. Fraud Warning
We have been made aware that residents have received cold calls by telephone from persons purporting to be from a government agency stating that a fine needed to be paid / or tax owed. The residents were asked to purchase Itunes vouchers/gift cards from a shop and then to phone them with the code, the callers were very forceful in manner. This is a scam. Please be wary of any variation of this story, please hang up on these calls. Please make neighbours and family aware of this, especially elderly or vulnerable.
