Walk with Debbie Jenkins to High Wilhays and Cranmere Pool, August 25th.

Well the weather was wet.  Very wet!  And the going was tough.  But we all made it, and in between the horizontal rain and the mist and cloud, when the weather briefly cleared up, the views across the surreal landscape of the High Moor were dramatic.

Debbie led a group of six of us in her role as a member of the Moorland Guides, and managed to keep everyone going, and regale us all with her intimate knowledge of the moor.  Cranmere Pool can best be described as desolate.  We duly left our postcards at this remote Dartmoor letterbox, to be collected and posted by the next intrepid hiker, to prove that we had actually made the trek, and returned back to our cars at Okehampton Camp, completing the 11+ mile round trip.

The best part of the day however was probably the warm bath upon returing home!  Next time I trek to Cranmere Pool, I shall wait for a summer’s day that really is like summer!
