    We will remember them

August 4th 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of The First World War. At 9.30pm we will be holding a commemoration of all those who served during the war and particularly remembering the five men from our own parish who did not return. The evening will commence with refreshments and end with a candle lit vigil at 11pm – all welcome. if anyone has any photographs or other memorabilia, particularly of the immediate area, we would be grateful for contributions towards a display in the church.

We are starting off with a bar and hog roast being served in the churchyard from 6pm.  We have a young and up-coming star, Johan Alderfeld, playing the piano before the concert and during the interval.  The concert starts at 7.30pm and there will be an interval of one hour when more food and drink may be consumed!  After another…

The AGM of the Friends of St. John’s is approaching. As members of our community, you may be interested in joining the Friends. As a totally separate body from the Parochial Church Council, our function is to raise funds in order to provide monies to be used for the restoration and maintenance of the structure of our lovely Parish church. If you are interested I can supply details of our AGM on Tuesday, 18th February to which all would be most welcome. There is also a membership form available. It would be good to hear from you! Friends of St John’s News

From Wendy Spiegel . . . Our charity, The Friends of St Johns North Bovey, was set up in 2006, following the quinquennial report, which is required by the Diocese, on the church in 2005. It was created to act as a fund raising body for the essential repairs that were required to keep the church building in a viable state. This year, the Object of the Charity was changed to more accurately reflect the perceived reasons for its existence.  The new Object reads: ”The object of the Society shall be to promote the preservation, repair, maintenance, restoration, improvement and ornamentation of the fabric of the Church of St John’s…
