North Bovey Village Fair 2021
Dear All,I hope you are all as well as can be expected in these particularly horrid times. The light at the end of that tunnel is getting closer to give us all hope of getting out of this in the not too distant future.I have canvassed a number of people’s views on running the Fair this year. As you may expect the views are wide ranging and not ones that are conducive in getting a consensus outcome on. Richard Loughton and I were going to run the Fair jointly, but we have concluded that the sensible decision is to not run the Fair this year.Whilst there is a majority that…

Village Fair – 17th July, 2021 ??
Hello All, Firstly I do hope you are all keeping well and surviving the harsh times we are in. I am writing to gauge the interest in holding the village fair this year. Richard Loughton and myself are happy to organise the event but before doing so we thought it best to do a straw poll of opinion. The questions we’d welcome guidance on are: 1) Should we run a fair? 2) If yes, should we aim for the traditional date, being 17th July? That would be nearly four weeks after the planned easing of all restrictions. 3) If not, when? It is relevant to note that neither Richard or…

North Bovey Belles WI – Coping in Challenging Times
For the February monthly meeting of the North Bovey Belles WI, the speaker was Dr Rebecca Alegbo and was held on Zoom. She talked to us about “Coping in Challenging Times”. Dr Rebecca is a part time lecturer of psychology at the University of Exeter and runs a social enterprise called Towards Training, which is a business for the benefit for the community. She trains and teaches people skills in a different way to improve their wellbeing. The restrictions imposed on us during the latest Covid pandemic have created a lot of anxiety and created a barrier for getting help. In the past it has been suggested that one should…

North Bovey Belles WI January Meeting
Pineapple bottle for pina coladas, a vase for winter flowers, table lamp containing miniature lights, salt cellar and a container for cat’s Dreamy Treats were just some of the ideas the ladies brought to the WI meeting on Zoom for their contribution to the upcycling competition. Because of the innovative variety presented it was decided that everybody was a winner. Well done ladies. In 1954 the British Women’s Institute started a national anti-litter campaign called “Keep Britain Tidy”. 67 years later we are still reminded to do the same. This is the kind of influence the WI has had and still has in our modern world. Every year each WI member has…
